About

A modern, democratic society is built through the discovery and acknowledgment of the dark chapters of recent history, such as the Holocaust; a knowledge supported by continuous research, carried out through a congruent, interdisciplinary effort that transcends national borders.

The European Holocaust Research Infrastructure (EHRI) is an international research infrastructure that supports and promotes Holocaust research, commemoration, and education on a transnational level. EHRI-RO is the national node representing Romania within the international research consortium.

The EHRI's journey began in 2010 with a European-funded project (H2020-EU.1.4.1.2 - Integrating and opening existing national and regional research infrastructures of European interest). Through successive projects, a continuous effort, supported by 27 partners from Europe, Israel, and the United States of America, focused on interdisciplinary expertise, attention to innovation, EHRI has managed to lay the foundations of a European Holocaust research infrastructure, which, from January 2025, is operating as a permanent consortium with regional research hubs in ten founding member states.

In the context of anti-Semitism, xenophobia, and hate speech resurgence, the work carried out within the EHRI demonstrates that Holocaust research goes beyond the academic sphere and scientific impact, being a prerequisite for open and non-discriminatory societies.
